Coparity and OurFamilyWizard: which one fits your family
If you are separating, or already living it, choosing an app is one more decision on a long list. Both of these are serious products that two parents can run their week on, and either will do the job of a shared calendar, documented messages and shared costs. The real question isn't which has more features — it's what each one was built to do.
Coparity is built for
Coparity is built around the child's everyday life: where they are today, what still needs packing before the handover, and a parenting plan agreed provision by provision that writes the live settings it describes. It is made in the UK for UK families, and it works fully even if the other parent never joins.
OurFamilyWizard is built for
OurFamilyWizard has been made in the US since 2001 and is built for controlled, documented communication and a shared record designed to be used in legal processes, with professional access alongside it. It runs localised services in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and France.

Coparity is billed once per family space, so both parents are included: a 14-day free trial with no card, then Family at £12 a month — about £12 a month for two parents. OurFamilyWizard is billed per parent on tiers, so each parent pays their own: in the UK, Essentials £9, Premium £13 or Max £18 a month, or £108–£216 a year, which comes to about £18–£36 a month for two parents. OurFamilyWizard also offers free accounts for children and third parties, fee waivers, and a 30-day money-back period on the web.
OurFamilyWizard may suit you better if…
- A court order, your solicitor or your mediator names OurFamilyWizard specifically, or asks for a certified record. If an app is named, use the named app.
- You want to talk by audio or video inside the app rather than by phone, or you want to send money between you inside the app (check it's offered where you live).
- You need accounts for the children, a step-parent, a grandparent or another third party to see parts of the arrangements.
- Your family isn't in the UK, or one parent lives in another of the countries OurFamilyWizard serves, and you want a service local to both of you.
Coparity may suit you better if…
- You are paying for this out of a household that has just split in two, and one price covering both parents matters.
- Your co-parent hasn't joined, and may never join. Coparity is a complete product for one parent, and everything waits for them if they arrive.
- You want an actual parenting plan, not just a calendar — twelve sections, per child and age-staged, agreed provision by provision, where agreeing something changes the live setting rather than sitting in a document nobody opens.
- You want quiet help rather than more admin: a calmer rephrase offered before a tense message is sent, early signals read from your own family's data, and answers to "how do I…?" in context. Guidance, never a decision.
Whichever you choose, the point of it is the same: fewer messages your child has to carry, fewer handovers that start badly, and more of the ordinary evenings they'll actually remember.
A court or my solicitor mentioned OurFamilyWizard. Can I use Coparity instead?
If an order, a solicitor or a mediator names a specific app, use the one that's been named — that's not a decision to make on your own. Rules and expectations vary, so ask your family solicitor or mediator what they need from you before you switch anything.
Can I use Coparity if my co-parent won't join?
Yes. A parent on their own gets the complete product — calendar, plan, children's details, expenses, journal and the record — and everything is waiting for the other parent if they join later.
Does Coparity charge each parent separately?
No. Coparity is billed per family space at £12 a month after the 14-day trial, and both parents are included in that one plan. OurFamilyWizard is billed per parent, so each parent holds their own subscription.
Can my co-parent see my private notes?
On Coparity, your journal, your Evidence and your legal threads are yours alone. They are never shown to the other parent and never exported to them.
Can I use both apps?
You can — for example where a documented messaging channel has been asked for by name and you want a parenting plan and day-to-day organisation alongside it. It's two subscriptions and two places to check, so it's worth being honest with yourself about whether you'll keep both up.
